Pink Floyd member Richard Wright dies

Some very bad news today, I was sad to learn that Pink Floyds' Richard Wright has died, aged 65.

A founding member and in the early days or the band along with Syd Barrett was seen as the bands dominant forces, he sang and wrote songs. Wright met Roger Waters and Nick Mason in college and joined their early band, Sigma 6. Along with the late Syd Barrett, the four formed Pink Floyd in 1965.

Wright wrote "The Great Gig In The Sky" and "Us And Them" for that album, and later worked on the group's epic compositions such as "Atom Heart Mother," "Echoes" and "Shine On You Crazy Diamond."

After tensions between him, Waters and Gilmour grew and finally came to a head during the making of "The Wall", Wright was relegated to what amounted to the the position of session musician on the tour of "The Wall". After Waters left the band in 1985, Wright started to record with Mason and Gilmour again on the albums "The Division Bell" and "A Momentary Lapse of Reason"

Wright went on to form the band "Zee" along with Dave Harris of the band "Fashion", and released the album "Identity" that was their only album release. He also released the solo albums "Wet Dream" (1978) and "Broken China" (1996).

In July 2005, Wright, Waters, Mason and Gilmour reunited to perform at the "Live 8" charity concert in London — the first time in 25 years they had been onstage together, Wright also worked on Gilmour's solo projects, including recently playing on the 2006 album "On An Island" and the accompanying world tour.

He was believed to have been battling Cancer, and died at his home.

Flexi-pop

If you have ever been curious about the Tribute to Flexipop series, as you know they came about as a tribute to the original Flexipop magazine that was published in the UK during the early eighties, the series has nothing to do with the original magazine.

Well it just so happens I found a blog yesterday, where you can download some of the volumes of the series.

Weekend

I'm quite a big fan of Curve and everything connected with the band members, Toni Halliday and Dean Garcia, I always thought Curve were very underrated at the time and I think in many ways its only years later that people started to give them the credit they were and are due. Anyway because its nice to get things for free, I have a link where you can get you hands on a free Curve mp3, it may not be new, but its a freebie, the track is called
"Weekend", I have also provided links to some other useful Curve sites and resources.

Robots in Disguise

A new discovery for me this one, although the band isn't new.

"Robots in Disguise" is primarily made up of Dee Plume and Sue Denim and has a rolling line up of musicians. Sue Denim provided vocals on Chris Corners' IAMX album "The Alternative" and appeared in the video for "Spit it out", however this was not the first time they had worked together as Chris Corner had earlier produced "Robots in Disguise" first single "Mix Up Words and Sounds" on Splinter, Chris Corner has also produced all their albums to date.
