The Alarm frontman Mike Peters has been taking part in the first ever Global Cancer Summit organised and hosted by Lance Armstrong in Dublin, Ireland.

To quote the latest newsletter :
"It's been an incredible three day meeting of individuals and organisations uniting together in the fight against cancer. I am proud to be representing the work we have begun with the Love Hope Strength Foundation.
One of the initiatives is to get as many people as possible to sign the World Cancer Declaration and Lance Armstrong has personally asked me to help him get another 10,000 signatures added by tomorrow - Wednesday night.
I have already signed the Declaration personally, and know that even if a small sample of Alarm fans out there digitally sign the Declaration also, then we can help achieve this figure. So I ask you, please follow this link and sign the Declaration. You can even dedicate your action to someone you love or has inspired you.
As Lance says in his letter below, it only takes a few moments and will be a major help in pushing Cancer Care to the forefront of those with the power to make change in our world.
Thanks for reading this email, I hope I can count on your participation.
Love, hope and strength,
Mike Peters
Dear Mike
Last month when I started the Tour de France, I asked you to join me in signing the World Cancer Declaration. The response has been staggering —more than 100,000 of us have added our names to this urgent global push to fight cancer.
Tomorrow, the LIVESTRONG Global Cancer Summit here in Dublin will come to a close. It’s an incredibly rare opportunity to urge some of the most powerful people in the world to commit the time, energy and resources needed to make a world without cancer a reality. And we can do just that if we add 10,000 more signatures to the Declaration before the Summit ends on Wednesday.
Will you sign the Declaration and then ask your friends and family to help us add 10,000 commitments by Wednesday night? It only takes a moment and every name counts:
http://www.livestrongaction.org/campaigns/commit-fight-cancer
Cancer affects all of us. By 2010, cancer is projected to become the leading cause of death worldwide, yet the fight against cancer lacks urgency and focus. That is why we must take matters into our own hands and force cancer onto the global agenda.
The LIVESTRONG Global Cancer Summit in Dublin will do just that by bringing governments, communities and survivors from all over the world together pushing for new commitments to stem the growing impact of cancer around the globe. Closing this commitment gap is a critical step towards a world without cancer.
We have just one more day to make the World Cancer Declaration as powerful as possible. Every additional name we add will lend weight to our cause; every single new voice adds urgency to our fight. I know we can reach our goal if each and every one of us signs the Declaration and asks someone close to us to add their name too.
Will you sign the Declaration and also ask a friend or family member to join us before Wednesday night? It only takes a moment and will make a big difference:

DOWNLOAD : Strut World Music Sampler
Before I continue, I have to say I am quite annoyed when this sort of thing happens.......I will explain if you live in the US, you can download a free Strut Records World Sampler from Amazon, however if you live outside of the US you'll have to pay for it, I really hate crap like this, Amazon.com seem to carry more free downloads for US customers than it does for customers outside of the US, it just hits a nerve with me, and is really not fair in any way.
So if you live in the US, lucky you!
However you can download a free sampler from the label, regardless of where you are, by visiting www.strut-records.com, simply enter your details to sign up to their newsletter and you will be sent a link to download the sampler.

NEWS : "Breakfast Club" director John Hughes dies aged 59
More sad news, 2009 seems to have been a bad year for losing people, sources say the director of such films as "The Breakfast Club", "Ferris Bueller's Day Off", "Sixteen Candles", "Weird Science", died of a Heart Attack during a morning walk in Manhattan. As well as directing, he wrote and produced many very successful films.

TRIVIA : THE CHURCH
Although 'The Church' are an Austrialian band, only two members have actually been from Australia, Peter Koppes and former member Richard Ploog, their guitarist, Marty Willson-Piper was born in Liverpool, England, Steven John Kilbey was born in Welwyn Garden City, England, Tim Powles was born in Wellington, New Zealand and former member Jay Dee Daugherty was from NY, USA.
Marty Willson-Piper's other side projects and collaborations include two stints as guitarist for UK rock group All About Eve, David Gedge's Cinerama and work with Jules Shear, Tom Verlaine, Martin Rössel, and Aimee Mann. Willson-Piper recently joined veteran band The Saints to record an album and tour. He also works with long-time friend Andy 'Dare' Mason under the name "Noctorum".
Lead singer Steve Kilbey is also a songwriter, bassist, guitarist, keyboardist, producer, poet and painter. Since 1985 Kilbey has released several solo projects and collaboratively written and/or produced recordings with artists such as Grant McLennan of The Go-Betweens, Stephen Cummings and Kev Carmody. Earthed, a book of fiction, was published in 1986. His book of poetry, Nineveh/The Ephemeron, was released in 1998 and was later republished. He now lives in Bondi, near Sydney, Australia with his wife and three of his five children.
Peter Koppes presently lives on the Sunshine Coast of Australia where he also produces albums and teaches songwriting.
Drummer Tim Powles started working with the band in 1994, with the album Sometime Anywhere (though he was mis-identified as Tim Powell on the liner notes). He became an official, permanent member with Hologram of Baal in 1998, and has worked on all of their releases since then. Tim resides in Sydney, Australia and runs a recording studio called Spacejunk. Tim first became known in 80's band The Venetians and the band Flight X-7.
Their fist single was 'She Never Said', with the B-Side In A Heartbeat. The single is quite special as 'She Never Said' was re-recorded for the album 'Of Skins And Heart'. So this version is only available on the single.
On the New Zealand version of the LP 'Of Skins And Heart' (EMC 251), the label lists "Tear It All Away" but plays "Fighter Pilot...Korean War," as listed on the cover. There is also an extra drum roll at the end of "Bel-Air," which is also heard on the 2002 EMI remaster.
Two songs from the album 'Starfish' were used in episodes of Miami Vice. "Under The Milky Way" was used in an episode called 'Asian Cut' and "Blood Money" was used in the episode 'Heart Of Night'.
Their first radio hit was the single "The Unguarded Moment".
Here is a short list of Vinyl Inner Groove Messages, these are the mysterious words and phrases that appear on the runout groove areas of some vinyl releases (or in one case laser-etched around the center of a CD). Many of the messages are written by the vinyl (cutting) mastering engineers. The more obscure comments are often messages from the band :
