NEWS: DB RUMOURS
Rumours, rumours and more rumours.
You can't have missed the story that had been doing the rounds that David Bowie was set to resurrect his Ziggy Stardust alter-ego and that he has been in talks with organisers of California’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts festival, who wanted him to perform his classic album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars in its entirety.
Most I'm sure would have seen the stories for what they were, pure fantasy.
The 62-year-old singer famously killed off his alter ego on stage in London in 1973, a year after the album’s original release.
Bowie has been in semi-retirement since his heart scare in 2004, which led to him cancelling his World Tour, however another rumour that crept up was that he may well be working on new material in Berlin, Germany, a comment was left under his name on the social networking site Twitter, a user named David Bowie wrote "Cheers from a snowy Berlin! Working on some new material.", there is one problem with this though, according to the official David Bowie site, David does not have a Twitter account, that and the fact that anyone could open an account using the name "David Bowie".
Bowie's last studio album was "Reality" that was released in 2003, however he did provide backing vocals on Scarlett Johansson’s album "Anywhere I lay My Head".
What will be the next big rumour, that "The Smiths" will reunite, oops sorry that one has already been rolled out more than a few times.

NEWS: Patrick McGoohan Dies
I know this isn't music orientated, but I just learned of the very sad news that Patrick McGoohan died on the 13th January 2009 :(
The Prisoner was a great favourite of mine when I was growing up. I also enjoyed his performances in Silver Streak and Scanners. A wonderful actor who will be greatly missed.
RIP Patrick Joseph McGoohan (19th March, 1928 – 13th January, 2009)

GEMS OF THE PAST: Joan Armatrading
Two videos from an extremely talented and often overlooked artist, the first video is "Drop The Pilot" which is the song most people will recognize and the second is my favourite track by her - Love and Affection, this performance on Later....with Jools Holland shows what a great talent she really is and an absolutely stunning performer.

SPOTLIGHT : BENBECULA RECORDS
If its modern alternative (and I mean proper alternative - not what some deem alternative), proper cutting edge, experimental material then you should sample some of the material released by Benbecula Records.
Benbecula Records is a Scottish independent label started in the late 1990's, primarily an electronica label, but over the years it has broadened its roster to include indie, jazz and modern folk amnongst others
The label makes available music that normally wouldn't be released though it's highly successful subscription service featuring its highly limited monthly "Minerals Series". With the material on offer it comes as no surprise why the label was a great favourite of the late great John Peel.
To quote the website -
"Benbecula remains a step ahead of its peers by daring to go where others fear to tread, but remaining a formidable global force in highly modern but entertaining music."
