NEW RELEASE : Siouxsie and the Banshees at the BBC

‘Siouxsie and the Banshees at the BBC’ is a stunning 84-track, all digitally-remastered, 4 disc hard-back book set of exclusive BBC sessions, live concert tracks and TV performances recorded between 1977 – 2001 split across 3CDs and a DVD. All tracks hand picked by the band and featuring Siouxsie’s introduction to the liner notes.

Disc 3 contains highlights from their BBC concert recordings at the Apollo Theatre in Oxford and the Royal Albert Hall in London in 1988, where the band performed a storming set 3 nights in a row to a sold out crowd. Highlights include a breathtaking Last Beat of My Heart , Christine and a rip roaring crowd pleasing end of show version of Hong Kong Garden.

Disc 4 is the real gem; a 29 track DVD of the band’s BBC TV performances. This is a fantastic visual documentary of the band, starting with the OGWT performance of tracks from their debut album in1978; Metal Postcard and
Jigsaw Feeling through the dark years of Juju, performed for the Rock Goes to College show and culminating with the beautifully pure pop bliss of Kiss Them For Me from Superstition.

Yes I have seen Jim Kerr's video on simpleminds.com and while he hints, he doesn't state anything definite.

SUPPORT INDEPENDENT, AD FREE INTERNET RADIO

While there are many Internet Radio stations available to listeners, there is unfortunately very few truly independent, ad-free stations (although some pretend to be).

Ad-free stations on the whole can only keep broadcasting through the generosity of their listeners, after all who wants to listen to 10 minutes of advertising in every hour of content.

Below are two stations that I frequently listen to and believe that they deserve support.

Ultravox - Return To Eden Tour

I have not long returned from what I consider to have been one of the best concerts I have seen in a long time,I am of course speaking of Ultravox on their Return To Eden Tour.

I got to see Ultravox at the Manchester Apollo. I never got the chance to see the band the first time around during the 80's and I have never seen Midge live (although that will change), The band were on perfect form and it was as if they had never been away, the venue IMO was perfect and although I was some 20 rows away, the view of the band was outstanding.

All in all I was quite, for want of a better phrase - blown away. I'm wishing I could catch them at another gig.

I will say this if you get the chance to see them on this tour - SEE THEM! :) :)

The following video was taken from the Manchester Apollo show (not by me, I had taken some shots but I was a bit further back, a fine job)

NEWS : Gary Numan Pleasure Principle Show

You may have noticed a show for The Manchester Academy has made its way onto Gary Numan's online store.

"This Manchester Academy show will be dedicated entirely to The Pleasure Principle album. This year is the 30th Anniversary of this album reaching Number 1, and of the Cars single that came from it, and so this show will celebrate those two anniversaries. It's possible that other Pleasure Principle shows will be added around this Manchester gig to create a Pleasure Principle mini tour. If that does come together we will announce any extra dates through Numind before putting them onto the main NuWorld web site. It depends somewhat on how much interest fans have in going to see a Pleasure Principle tour." - numind

TRIVIA : BAUHAUS

Peter Murphy was the model for Maxell's UK "Blown Away Guy" ad campaign which ran in the 1980s, with its tagline of "Sentence your cassette to life." Despite the rumor, he's not the younger model in the omnipresent US edition of the campaign.

Peter is married to Beyhan and has two children, named Hurihan and Adem. His wife has directed several of his videos, and leads the Turkish National Modern Dance company. He has been living in Ankara since 1992.

Kevin Haskins has two daughters in a Los Angeles band called blackblack, Kevin has also appeared on a Porno for Pyros release.

Tones on Tail was a musical side project created by Daniel Ash of Bauhaus along with Bauhaus roadie Glenn Campling in 1982. After the demise of Bauhaus in 1983, they were joined by drummer Kevin Haskins. The band folded in 1984.

Love and Rockets were an alternative rock band formed in 1985 by former Bauhaus members Daniel Ash (guitars, saxophone, and vocals), David J (bass and vocals) and Kevin Haskins (drums, synthesizers). Former Bauhaus vocalist, Peter Murphy having embarked on a solo career..

Dali's Car was a musical group formed in 1984 by Peter Murphy (vocalist) and Mick Karn (bass guitarist, keyboardist, guitarist, saxophonist) shortly after they left their former bands (Bauhaus and Japan, respectively). They recorded one album, The Waking Hour, and released one single, "The Judgement Is the Mirror".

David J wrote the lyrics of several Bauhaus songs (including their first single, "Bela Lugosi's Dead"). He sang backing vocals on many songs, and sang lead on "Who Killed Mr. Moonlight?" He began writing music for a solo career while still in the band, and continued after the band's breakup, releasing the dark Etiquette of Violence and Crocodile Tears and the Velvet Cosh, and played bass on two Jazz Butcher albums (A Scandal in Bohemia and Sex and Travel).

David J was part of the strange and very short-lived band The Sinister Ducks, which included saxophonist Alex Green and graphic novelist Alan Moore. He also released a collaborative single, "Armour" / "Nothing" with artist / poet, Rene Halkett of the original Weimar Bauhaus school of art and design.

"Bela Lugosi's Dead" is an influential gothic rock song (often considered to be the first) written by the band Bauhaus. The song was the band's first single, released in August 1979. It did not enter the UK pop charts, but remained on sale for many years thereafter. The B-side features the song "Boys" and some versions also include an early recording of what would be their next single, "Dark Entries."

Covers of "Bela Lugosi's Dead" :

Electric Hellfire Club
Sepultura
Until December
Godhead
Dream Disciples
Marilyn Manson
Opera IX
Poison Idea
XIII Stoleti
XPQ21
Nouvelle Vague
Soft Taco (band)

Truth Decay did a parody/homage called "The Ballad of Theodore Geisel (Dr. Seuss is Dead)" which referenced many Dr. Seuss characters, particularly the Cat in the Hat.
An excerpt of the song is parodied in Bill Bailey's Cockney Medley, a feature of his Bewilderness stand-up routine.

In June of 2006, while touring together, Peter Murphy, Trent Reznor and members of TV on the Radio performed the song for a radio and internet broadcast.

The Dirtbombs' cover of the soul song "Kung Fu" features an instrumental line that is virtually indistinguishable from that of "Bela Lugosi's Dead".
